Asha Nelson

Project Coordinator

Asha Nelson holds a Bachelor of Arts in Global Political Economy from the University of Manitoba, where she developed a passion for addressing environmental issues through a social justice and equity lens. Since graduating, she has taken on various roles in project management and research, with a focus on food sovereignty and community development. Most notably, she played a key role in building Fireweed Food Co-op, an award-winning non-profit local food distribution cooperative, from the ground up. In 2022, she received the Cooperator’s Young Leaders Award for her leadership at Fireweed.

Asha is committed to centring community in her work and creating equitable engagement processes. In her free time, she enjoys climbing, canoeing, cycling, and cooking up feasts for her friends and family. She currently resides in Treaty 1 Territory and is an active member of the Winnipeg Food Council.
