MCRT Infrastructure Project

This training provides engineers, geoscientists, and other professionals and decision-makers with advanced knowledge and skills in climate change adaptation and mitigation.

Training Modules

The MCRT Infrastructure Training Project equips professional engineers, geoscientists, professionals, and decision-makers to design infrastructure and other projects that protect the public from extreme weather while reducing carbon emissions.

The modules below were delivered Winter 2023.

  • Module 1: Infrastructure Climate Risk Assessment and how to conduct an assessment featuring PIEVC
  • Module 2: Natural Infrastructure Solutions to Enhance Climate Resilience
  • Module 3: Introduction to Climate Change through Codes, Standards, and Regulations
  • Module 4: Introduction to Geothermal Engineering and Energy Modelling

Project Background

The MCRT Infrastructure Training Project provides engineers, geoscientists and other professionals and decision-makers with advanced knowledge and skills in climate change adaptation and mitigation.

Specific objectives are:

  • To build awareness and knowledge among professional engineers, geoscientists, and other stakeholders to integrate climate change solutions into design and development to promote climate resiliency and climate mitigation in Manitoba.
  • To increase skills, capacity, and tool usage among professional engineers, geoscientists and other stakeholders to integrate current and future climate information and data into analysis, planning, and decision making on projects.
  • To enhance collaboration with stakeholders in Manitoba and across Canada, fostering a strong community of practice, knowledge, and expertise.

The project also delivered a pre-training survey and engagement conversation with members and other stakeholders to identify training needs related to mitigating and adapting to climate change in their work.

The results were used to develop course content and training methods to ensure that the material is both relevant and practical for users.

The MCRT Infrastructure Project is funded by the Government of Manitoba in partnership with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba.
